ACT – Autism Community Training recognizes and acknowledges the profound significance of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action. We are committed to fostering understanding, respect, and partnership with Indigenous communities across Canada.
We honor the resilience and wisdom of Indigenous Peoples and commit to ongoing learning and reflection on how our practices can support, and lift up in a good way, Indigenous voices and experiences. We recognize the importance of addressing historical and ongoing injustices faced by Indigenous communities and the need for systemic change. In the spirit of reconciliation, we strive to empower Indigenous communities and individuals to support the neurodivergent community by providing assistance with training, bursaries and advocacy to encourage self-governance and sufficiency. Further, we recognize the complexities inherent in having both Indigenous and neurodivergent identities and seek to further our understanding through active listening to Indigenous perspectives and communities.
ACT is dedicated to:
- Promoting cultural awareness and sensitivity in all our programs and services.
- Building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and leaders.
- Incorporating Indigenous perspectives and knowledge into our work.
- Advocating for equitable access to autism services for Indigenous children and youth, and their families.
- Providing supports to Indigenous communities and caretakers to provide frameworks that support Indigenous neurodivergent individuals.
- Learning perspectives and best practices from Indigenous communities and Indigenous neurodivergent individuals, caretakers and professionals.
- Educating our community about the history and legacy of residential schools and the ongoing impact on Indigenous Peoples.
