Event Details

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured, standardized measure of communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and receptive behaviors synonymous with autism (spectrum disorder). It is widely considered the ‘gold standard’ measure of behavioral observation for assessment and diagnosis of autism.  With updated protocols and the addition of the Toddler Module, the ADOS-2 provides a highly accurate evaluation of current behavior in individuals from 12 months of age to adulthood, from individuals who are nonverbal to individuals who are verbally fluent. By observing and coding these behaviors, you can obtain information that informs diagnosis, treatment planning, and educational placement.

Through completion of this introductory course, you will:

  • Learn the differences between clinical and research use of the ADOS-2
  • Learn how to select the appropriate module for working with different clients
  • Learn how to administer the tasks within each module
  • Learn how to code the specific items within each module
  • Obtain experience that will support your future administrations with the measure as you work towards independent clinical use

Your involvement:

  • Attend the training session (Module 1-4)
  • An additional session will be offered on the Toddler Module
  • Read and bring your own ADOS-2 manual (ADOS-2 protocols and a training package will be provided for the training)
  • Be prepared to watch and score videotaped administrations with a volunteer individual with autism.
  • Be prepared to discuss behaviors observed during the demonstration administrations and the coding for each administration with the group

Please note: The ADOS-2 is a protected measure, and only registered professionals (or students working towards registration) can attend this training.
